Building the Foundations

Students begin their vocal journey by building essential musical foundations in a fun, engaging way.  

• Master essential rhythm concepts: 4/4 and 3/4 time signatures  
• Develop foundational singing techniques such as posture, proper breathing, and breath support.
• Explore dynamics (soft and loud), articulation (legato and staccato), and vocal registers (chest and head voice)  

Grade 1 helps students feel secure when singing while developing steady rhythm, good sense of pitch and the confidence to perform.  

Expanding Musical Awareness

Students expand their musical awareness and begin singing freely across a wider vocal range in a fun, engaging way.  

• Master new rhythm and dynamic concepts: 2/4 time, crescendo, and contrasting volume levels  
• Extend vocal range while developing note-reading skills, resonant singing technique, and melodic interval recognition.
• Develop expressive touches including ties, accents, and controlled volume shifts  

Grade 2 helps students become more flexible, coordinated, and expressive singers as they gain musical independence.  

Building Musical Maturity

Students make an exciting leap in musical maturity as they explore richer rhythmic and expressive ideas in a fun, engaging way.  

• Master advanced rhythmic concepts: 6/8 time, semiquavers, dotted quavers, and syncopation  
• Expand vocal range from lower to upper chest voice and exploring different vocal textures.
• Develop expressive control through crescendo, diminuendo, and tonality  

Grade 3 helps students sound more polished and musical with stronger control, fluency and stylistic awareness.

Developing Artistic Confidence

Students grow into more confident and capable singers with greater control over interpretation and musical structure in a fun, engaging way.  

• Master tempo changes (accelerando, ritardando), harmonic intervals, rhythmic permutations, and navigation symbols (D.S. / D.C. al Coda)  
• Expand the higher range and learning the C Major scale
• Develop expressive singing through varied tone colours and tonalities.

Grade 4 helps students sing with greater sophistication, technical control and musical understanding.

Achieving Advanced Musicianship

Students reach an advanced stage of musical development where technical skill and musical understanding come together powerfully in a fun and engaging way.  

• Master complex rhythm and theory: 7/4 time, scale degrees, swung semiquavers, chord progressions, and advanced sight reading  
• Refine scale fluency and pitch control across C Major, G Major, and A minor.
• Develop listening depth, reading ahead ability, and stylistic confidence through aural training and expressive performance  

Grade 5 helps students develop into expressive and versatile singers with the skills to perform with greater stylistic confidence and musical depth.
